Shelby GT500 RK527
Normally when we mention RK Motors Charlotte it’s about some insanely rare or expensive Mustang being offered up for sale.
While the car you see here is both rare and expensive, it’s actually a project car built by the sales and restoration shop.
Dubbed the “RK527″, this custom 1967 Shelby GT500 made its debut at the 50th anniversary Mustang event in Charlotte, NC this past weekend.
Named for its all-aluminum 527 cubic inch V8 built by the legendary John Kaase, the RK527 is a “Shelby Sleeper” with all of its stock Candy Apple Red bodywork intact and a factory looking interior.
The monster V8 puts out an astounding 800 horsepower through a custom Tremec T56 6-speed transmission, and a Detroit Speed Alumaframe and Quadralink setup ensure the power is put to the ground.
You can see plenty of photos of the RK527 Shelby GT500 in the gallery below, or head over to RK Motors’ web site to read more about the car.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford Mustang, and to compete in 2014 HOT ROD Magazine Power Tour, RK Motors is preparing what is quite possibly the most powerful classic Mustang ever made. It’s a 1967 Shelby GT500, equipped by RK with a modern 800+ horsepower engine.
RK Motors 1967 Shelby GT500 tribute car will be unveiled during the Mustang ceremony at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, April 18. It is finished in red with the classic Shelby white stripes running the length of the car.
While it looks impeccably original, RK Motors GT500 is a modern car underneath, featuring Jon Kaase Heads, Fast XFI ECU Port Fuel Injection, Billet Specialties drive system, Bryant Billet Crankshaft, custom 3” Exhaust and Magnaflow mufflers, Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission, Custom Detroit Speed Alumaframe, complete with coil-over shocks in the front and Detroit Speed quadra-link suspension in the rear, and massive Baer calipers and rotors.
The wheels on RK Motors 1967 Shelby GT500 are Vintage HA Series 427 Shelby, wrapped with BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Tires. It should be awesome seeing an old Mustang smoking the best of today’s supercars in a head to head challenge!
