The "Blown Delivery" has become the next hottest sensation following the Volkswagen Drag Bus. Surprisingly both models were designed by Phil Riehlman in 1995.
This Blown Delivery was the alternative or let's just say, the back-up model chosen for the supposed ill faded VW Drag Bus.
There were some considerable "huge" obstacles for the Volkswagen Drag Bus to be produced. It almost didn't get done due to the expense, amount of die-cast required, number of parts, the weight issue, lack of any type of production wheels, etc.
The Blown Delivery or code named the "Coke Delivery Truck" was considered by Mattel "A worthy back-up design: This was almost produced instead of the Bus!" It is definitely a worthy design and Mattel could have had two lightning bolt designs that collectors couldn't get enough of. Instead we "the collectors" settled for over 100, yes that's right, over 100 re-issues of the "Volkswagen Beached Whale". Basically, the VW Drag Bus is a fine design, no question about it. However, after being re-issued over and over again it does become somewhat "overdone". This would have given Mattel a dynamic duo to choose from. Anyway enough banter, let's more on...
Ah yes, the Phil Riehlman back-up design and nicely drawn too. Phil took the retrospective approach to this design and it has acquired mass appeal. The collectors have spoken and they can't get enough of it...hmmm, kind of sounds like the VW story all over again. Deja Vu!

(Hey, nobody else has this drawing so Mattel full credit goes to you for allowing us to see this historical artwork). Thank you!
Since the production issues with the VW were finally resolved (pity, eh) this “Coke Delivery” concept model was shelved for 15 years! Yep, you read that correctly, this design sat in the wings a long loooooooooooooooog time before it’s' curtain call.
Finally in 2010 the Coke Delivery...(oh wait a minute, you mean we can't call it that? You mean we have licensing issue? No again!!!), yes as I was saying, the Blown Delivery was released to the RLC! Horray!!! That's an exclusive club of 25,000 or so members. They were the chosen ones... or so they thought!
Redline Club Delivery
The Redline Club Delivery Truck! This is unleashed to the RLC in limited numbers and is a quick sellout! Production numbers 4,000.
Let's do some quick arithmetic here...
RLC
Members.........................................25,000
Blown Delivery
Production #.....................................4,000
Shortfall of units?.............................21,000
So there you have it, a shortage of 21,000 units. Then there was anger rising at the RLC. By the way, this model sells quite well on the bay and other secondary markets. Prices of $250 were being seen and collectors were jumping to land this big fish! Today this is still a big market money seller! Nonetheless, my point is that not enough was made to even satisfy a fraction of the RLC members who join the club for these types of exclusives...
Sidenote:
(Then there's the issue of that wonderful RLC shop, you think you have it, its in your cart, enter credit card info, press enter, you wait and wait, site times out, item now SOLD OUT)! Sad but indeed true.
Hey looka here, at least I have a nice picture of this. Ain't she a beauty!!!
And then there was the exclusive "K" car........
The day event that will long be remember throughout history... November 5th, 2011...and the bell tolls at 9 AM. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Stampede! Oh yea....(So that's what the day was remembered for, eh)
K-Mart Blown Delivery
This followed the heals of a K-Mart highly anticipated promotion for the Blown Delivery. I love these hyped up promotions...
Wait for it.................
Here it is still fresh in the blistercard and it will remain there...since it retains more collector value in this mint sealed condition.
I could not find a loose one of these anywhere. I mean what gives!!! Have we become collectors of blistercards only!!! What has happened to us!!!
Don't answer, this is rhetorical.
But wait, what's this, Google has come through for me again!
Eureka!!!
I can't thank this website enough for having unleashed this item from the blistercard. What a great picture too! But what's that flame watermark in the background though? Oh, this picture comes directly from Mattel. Ah, should have figured this out, who else would have this displayed in the wild opened.

But wait.............there were more releases.......of de Blown Delivery!!!
2011 RLC Blown Delivery Selections
It was soon followed up as a "Selections" model chosen by the Redline Club members. Do you remember, they couldn't get enough so they voted this one into production.
That mirror like finish looks spectacular! And those red Real Rider tires are cool!
Don't go away yet, there's more....
It's S C A R Y time........and so Mattel released another Blown Delivery called Dream Halloween for 2011.
