Did you have any idea that Mattel hired an artist to actually paint the decals on the Hot Wheels Flying Colors models? Note I call the castings or frames "models" here. Basically the Hot Wheels cars are differentiated by different stock numbers or inventory models. Getting back to my discussion... Hand Painted Hot Wheels Flying Colors! Obviously these are prototypes, but can you tell at a glance? Since I couldn't... Take a good close look at this Neat Streeter. Closer....even closer... Image is courtesy of Bruce Pascal Does this actually look hand painted? I'm surprised by the perfection at this sub atomic level! The Ford lettering is so clear and distinct. This logo is pure perfection! Here is the same picture expanded. The level of detail in these hand painted tampos can be seen up close. Image is courtesy of Bruce Pascal From this artists' rendition of the hand painted decals and logo, Mattel went ahead and created the printed tampos from this using that grid patten process which we delved into previously. All this detail to create just to create a pattern on a Hot Wheels model. Wow, I'm quite impressed!

I'm quite impressed by this artistry.
Some really wicked work done here on a microscopic scale.
Kudos to Mattel!
