"I don't know if you are familiar with Vic Selotti...he is the most famous Mattel Employee and he worked in the model shop. He lived in Sacramento and when he died his collection was sold in pieces to many collectors. I got the very last remnants (about 50 cars). There are collectors that collect his cars because he was a master modeler. The black roof is so perfect because he painted it on himself....the production black roofs are very crude in comparison. The cars that he customized were termed lunch cars...this was because he would customize the cars on his lunch breaks." I have done some research and have come to the conclusion that the black roof was added later on in the production process. What is unique about this car is that Selotti hand painted the black roof on OVER the stripes (you can see the stripes peeking out from under the black paint on the 6th pic). This leads me to believe that this was a test car to be presented as an "add-on" in the production process. Obviously, it caught on because black roofs were, at one point, added to the production. I truly believe that this is the FIRST black roof Boss Hoss. Call it a prototype, call it a lunch break car, call it whatever you will. I think we can all agree that this is COOL. Below are the pictures, which show the condition very accurately. If you have any requests for more, please let me know. Images and information are courtesy of Thunder424 at CFR.
