Sir Rodney Roadster.
I always liked the appearance of this redline model released by Mattel during the Flying Colors era. The actual year of release was circa 1974.
Did you know this was a Larry Wood design! Basically Larry took the MG Roadster and added a monster Hemi engine, designed it into this stunning beauty "Hot Rod Roadster". Larry incorporated the California customs raked look as Harry Bradley first envision and brought to fruition in the 1968 Hot Wheels line-up.
It is a shame Sir Rodney Roadster was never given the true Spectraflame paint treatment and proper Redline Wheels with the correct torsion bar suspension.
That is until now! This redline maniac is ready and more than willing to tear apart the redline orange race track and conquer all challengers. Well it should with this over sized Hemi engine.
Nonetheless, we suggest placing this awe inspiring vintage jewel for display purposes since it is a true expression of redline artistry at its finest.
This is one of the models Mattel should have released during the redline spectraflame era. Just image the rainbow of spectraflame colors this should have worn.
For now I present the restored "Sir Rodney Roadster" in spectraflame red without the flame decals.
Here is a top profile view of this Sir Rodney Roadster.
The rear view of Sir Rodney Roaster.
Larry Wood went on to say this is based on an MG or a Lotus or some kind of lightweight English car with a big engine. The Hemi is the easiest engine to replicate, so almost everything I do is a Hemi.
