Recently at the National Hot Wheels Convention in Cincinnati (April 13-17, 2011) the fuel tanks, also known as side pods for the Brabham Repco F1 were finally revealed. I find it rather facinating how these redline relics were buried so deeply in someones archives.
For over 40 years all I heard from the biblical reference scrolls is "these were never made for the Brabham Repco".
My response has always been, "so why would Mattel go through all the extra cost and effort to modify the base to support the snap-on fuel tanks if they never made them"?

Answer from all the naysayers was no response.
Even some of the Mattel engineers provided me with the same response. Some of these engineers who worked at Mattel on the Hot Wheels line back in 1969 felt the same way. I suppose you can't always rely on memory. Perhaps everyone was caught up in the redline scrolls dogma that research isn't necessary anymore. What is written is gospel truth and can't be questioned.
At this point I'm thinking there must be some sort of mass conspiracy afoot here.
Well I was pleasantly surprised when Gary Nabors was kind enough to snap a pictures of the Brabham Repco F1 with the pods.
Was this secret suppose to be revealed?
Has it come to light since Strauss sold his collection?
Surprisingly the Brabham Repco snap on fuel tanks are part of the Strauss collection. Like who knew! Even Strauss the owner didn't know he had these.
These snap-on fuel tanks look to be tan in color and on a prototype white interior green enamel Brabham Repco.
Here is a picture of the base.
Please read more about this on this website.
